Course Overview
Grade 11 Life Orientation (or Civics) is a holistic subject that supports students’ personal, social, and academic development. It covers a wide range of themes including self-awareness, mental and physical well-being, values, relationships, human rights, and career planning. Students explore identity, stress management, social responsibility, gender equality, and active citizenship through interactive activities and reflection. The subject also emphasizes physical fitness, ethical behavior, and the importance of community engagement. In some curricula, Civics may place a stronger focus on democratic principles, civic duties, and political literacy, helping learners understand government structures and public participation. Life Orientation equips students with essential life skills such as goal setting, decision-making, and time management. It fosters emotional intelligence, resilience, and social consciousness. This subject ensures learners are not only academically capable but also socially aware, confident, and well-prepared to lead fulfilling personal and professional lives.
